Halswell Lodge is a delightful period cottage situated on the edge of the
sleepy village of Goathurst, Somerset. Constructed in the last year of King
William IV’s reign in 1836 and built to serve as the entrance lodge to Halswell
Park, the thatched dwelling was finished in the then fashionable ‘Cottage
Orneé’ style.
The Lodge is a welcoming cosy hideaway for a small family or perfect location
for a romantic getaway-from-it-all weekend. Hedge enclosed, the garden retains
a sense of privacy while offering plenty of space outside for children. Serious
gardeners will enjoy the outdoors too with colour surrounding the lodge for
much of the year.
Halswell Lodge is very easily accessed from Exit 24 of the M5 motorway, which
is 3 miles (5km) away, and there are great walks in the Quantock Hills from
the front door of the property. The wonderful gardens of Hestercombe
are only a few miles away, so too is
Dunster Castle, and the sacred site that is Glastonbury
Abbey is only 15 (25km) miles east.
